HISTORICAL GIST GUARD SERVICE MENU

The Gist Guard served from April 1862 through February 1865 in the defense of Charleston Harbor at virtually all Confederate positions from Sullivans Island to Morris Island.  In February 1865, after the evacuation of Charleston due to the ominous approach of General Sherman's army, the Gist Guard was attached to General Joe Johnston's army for the Carolina's Campaign.
