Pvt. Powell was captured at Fayettville, Noth Carolina on March 15, 1865.  He was receieved by the authorities at New Bern on April 10, 1865, then being sent to Hart's Island POW camp in New York.  His prison records show Greenville as his hometown.  He was released on June 17, 1865 after signing the oath of allegiance.  These records also provide the following information:
